How to Get an Accurate Quote for Aluminium Windows and Doors

A quotation is only as good as the information behind it. Two quotes for "a sliding door" can describe very different products, so here is how to make sure you are comparing like with like.

Start with the openings

Before anything else, list every window and door you need and where it goes. If the building is already up, the most reliable numbers come from a site measurement. If you are still on plan, send the drawings, but expect the final sizes to be confirmed on site once the openings exist.

Decide how each opening should work

A sliding door, a tri-slide and a folding door all fill the same gap and behave very differently. Think about:

• How much of the opening you want clear when the door is open
• Whether furniture will sit near the door
• How often it will be used, and by whom

Choose your finish and glass together

Frame colour and glass type affect how the whole elevation reads from the street. Ask to see them side by side rather than choosing from a list.
